Gotta love Henna!

This was one very fun shoot. I think I was the only guy at this one? In the end I got a little Henna myself on my hand. I think we did the OHM symbol. Very cool.

Henna is a brownish coloured powder derived from the Henna plant while “mehndi” is the art of applying Henna. The Henna is mixed with a number of ingredients to make a paste which is then applied to the back of the hands, palms and the feet of the bride. The Henna is applied with intricate designs which can take a couple of hours to complete. The Henna is left to ‘set’ for up to a day. Once the Henna is removed it leaves a rich, red coloured pattern on the hands and feet. This signifies that a female is about to be married. According to tradition the bride is not allowed to undertake any chores or housework until her “mendhi” completely fades. That's got to be the main reason for doing this right?

Check out the photos!

Redleaf Studios Workshop in Canada part 2

Here is the latest in photos that I took up there in Elkwater. You'll see a few shots I took of the instructors and students as well. Some of my favorites are when the sun was setting up on a hillside. One thing that I learned is that my Canon 10-22 is something I need to start using a bit more. It gives a really expansive point of view. I love how it stretches out the sky.

Hope you all like the photos!

Gregory

Redleaf Studios Workshop in Canada

Just got home from an intensive 4 day workshop up in the Canadian Province of Alberta. Redleaf studios of Regina put on the workshop that took place in Elkwater Alberta. It was by far the one of the best investments I've made in the last two years to better my photography skills. I'll be posting more images and more thoughts on the workshop early next week. For now, check out some of the images below.

El' Gaucho and The Marriot Hotel Downtown

Gregory Photography has been expanding a bit. The latest has been a series of shoots with El'Gaucho Restaurant and The Marriot Hotel. Some of the shots below utilize something called "HDR". That stands for High Dynamic Range. What this entails is bracketing your exposure and combining those exposures, (a total of 3) to smooth out the highlights and shadows. We then do something called "Tonal Mapping" which is a delicate process of finding those highlights and shadows and getting them perfectly smoothed out.

More to come!

Gregory
